Celebrated director Julie Taymor dismisses 'West Side Story' protests - Page Six

Acclaimed director Julie Taymor has little patience for the protesters who gathered outside the Broadway premiere of “West Side Story” on Thursday night.

The few dozen protesters were calling for the firing of star Amar Ramasar, who has been accused of participating in a text exchange involving explicit images during his time at the New York City Ballet. The show has stood by Ramasar, who plays Bernardo, with a rep previously telling us, “There is zero consideration being given to his potentially being terminated.”

When we asked Taymor what she thought of the demonstrators who had gathered, the “Lion King” director waved her hand dismissively and huffed, “Oh, that’s what I think of the protests. There’s more important …. go out and protest Trump please.”

John Leguizamo, Vanessa Hudgens, Chris Cooper, Debi Mazar and Alec Baldwin were also in attendance for the dramatically retooled production of the Broadway classic.
