A pair of boxing gloves worn by Sylvester Stallone in arguably his most famous movie, Rocky (1976), will be auctioned next month via Prop Store in Los Angeles, with an estimated value of between $12,000 and $16,000.
The black gloves with white trim were made by Casanova Boxing, but the manufacturer’s label was removed. The gloves were also seen in training sequences, according to Prop Store, a leading film and TV memorabilia company founded in London in 1998.
The gloves will be among 870 items offered at Prop Store’s “Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction” over two days from Aug. 26-27 in Los Angeles.
Bids can also be placed online or by phone, the company said.
Another highlight of the auction will be the Yellow Cadillac Coupe De Ville belonging to Rick Dalton (played by Leonardo DiCaprio), from the 2019 film Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood, directed by Quentin Tarantino. It is expected to fetch between $45,000 and $55,000.
“We have several original vehicles from the film in the auction,” says Matt Truex, marketing manager at Prop Store Los Angeles. “That car was a bit of an ‘Easter egg’ for Tarantino fans, as Michael Madsen’s Mr. Blonde character drove the same style car in Reservoir Dogs. Another instance of Tarantino being self-referential to his own film.”
The full catalog has yet to be released, but Prop Store expects to realize a total of more than $6 million from the two-day auction.
Auction lots can be viewed by appointment at Prop Store’s office facility in Valencia, Calif.
