Land-based aquaculture project Pure Salmon has unveiled design plans for a processing facility specific to its "Soul of Japan" site, based on a capacity of 10,000 metric tons per annum.

The company has an operating facility in Poland capable of producing in excess of 400t per year, but plans to produce 260,000t from new facilities in Japan, France, China, Brunei, Lesotho, and the US. Each new location will have annual production of 10,000t or 20,000t per annum and will comprise vertically integrated production and processing facilities.

"Wiley was engaged to conduct a completed concept, realize and define design for the salmon processing facility," Pure Salmon said, adding that Wiley had produced a range of blueprints for use by Japanese construction companies.

Logan Ashmole, Wiley senior project manager, said the firm was excited to be working
alongside Pure Salmon on the new plant. "We have confidence in their vision and the potential for land-based aquaculture in the future, especially as countries look to secure their domestic food supply in the current environment."

Wiley worked with Smart Aqua, Marel, Baader, Aquatic, and Pure Salmon on the design. The project delivered consulting advice for Pure Salmon, which it can use both on its Japanese facility and as a blueprint when constructing other land-based farms around the world, the farmer said.
