I was lucky enough to spend June and July with my family in Chicago. For two months I enjoyed their company, the freedom of being around people who have known you your whole life, and perhaps most importantly, my mother’s central air conditioning. Upon my return to Brooklyn in August I dressed up my laziness as environmentalism and decided that I could make it through August and September without my AC window unit. I am frequently shortsighted and also stupid.
While I tried to comfort myself with the thought of all the money I was saving on my energy bill, I was pretty miserable. I had a variety of super basic fans that I positioned directly in front of my face as I looked at every possible weather app for some sort of relief. Luckily, I found salvation about a week later in the form of the new Blueair Fan.
Let me be clear, this is not a one-for-one substitute for an air conditioner. BUT it is one of the best fans I’ve ever come across! It is the perfect sleeping fan because it only ever makes a sort of low hum, which kind of starts to feel like white noise. It has three speeds, and speed three is powerful enough to get you through a work-from-home day but doesn’t blast you with air and dry out your skin. And surprise! It’s also an air purifier! So while I threw open all of my windows to let in some “fresh” air, the fan was doing double duty getting all of the dust and allergens that I was bringing in.
This fan is also cute. Which I know sounds shallow, but is important when you live in a small apartment with limited storage space. The fact that it is easy on the eyes coupled with its air-purifying abilities means that you can and should keep it out all year round. So if your storage space for large and bulky cooling accoutrements is at a premium, I cannot recommend this cute, silent powerhouse enough. Thanks for saving me from my own stupidity, li’l guy!
