2021 BMW M3 And M4 Will Debut In RWD “Pure” Spec, AWD Competition Models Due Late Next Year - CarScoops

The new generation BMW M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe are a few months away from being presented, with the latest information stating that they will debut in September.

The two models will follow in the footsteps of the larger M5, with an M-tuned all-wheel drive system, but surprisingly, these variants are still more than a year away.

According to BMWBlog, the xDrive AWD system will be reserved for the Competition versions, which are scheduled to launch in late 2021. They will pack the 3.0-liter turbo-six mill, shared with the X3 M and X4 M Competition, with the same 503 HP (510 PS / 375 kW) output, paired to an automatic transmission, most likely with eight speeds.

The Pure variants will be powered by the same engine, albeit with a lower output, namely 473 HP (480 PS / 353 kW), which will be channeled to the rear axle exclusively through a manual gearbox. The M3 and M4 Pure are expected in September and should launch globally before the end of the year. There are plans to expand the lineup with a CS version of the two, which might be followed by the CSL further down the road.

We know for a fact that the M4 Coupe will get the oversized kidney grille that premiered recently in the 4-Series Coupe, and are certain that it will carry over to the M3 Sedan as well. The bigger bumpers with an apron at the front and aggressive diffuser at the rear, wide fenders, larger side skirts, quad exhaust pipes, bigger wheels, M badges and exclusive color and trim choices will define the looks of both cars.
