JACKSONVILLE, N.C. – A U.S. Marine veteran is thanking medical workers on the front lines of COVID-19 in a creative way.
David Murphy wrote an original song to remind doctors and nurses that he appreciates them during this tough time.
Murphy was in Beirut, Lebanon in 1983 during the Beirut bombing. He returned home to New York in 1987 and eventually became a responder on 9/11 in 2001.
"9/11 and the Beirut incident was pretty much the same thing, you know. So, I was still living with the trauma of that, and now this new trauma – it just piled up, you know, so I sort of lost it a little bit," Murphy said.
He said he knows what it is like to experience PTSD and wants doctors and nurses to know that they have resources and supporters.
"If you go down range and face the enemy, or you can go into the ED – emergency department – and face disease, and have no concern about anything except saving a life, you just have to do it the same way to yourself," he said.
