MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, MI – Yvette Hurt would have given you the shirt off her back if you needed it. She could light up a room with her smile, dimples and all. And she most likely would have forgiven the man who ran from the crash that killed her.
That’s according to her fiancé, Glenn Davis, who is grieving the loss of Hurt, 48, who died in a hit-and-run crash in Muskegon Heights on Wednesday.
“She was an absolutely fabulous person – she had a heart of gold,” Davis told MLive/Muskegon Chronicle. “She’s the epitome of a person who’s truly pure at heart.”
He and Hurt, 48, had lived together in Muskegon Heights for seven years after Hurt moved there from her home in Jackson to be with him, Davis said.
She had just left work -- she was a quality improvement specialist at the Muskegon Family Care health center -- on Wednesday, June 3, when she called Davis to tell him she’d be home after stopping at a store.
“I said ‘OK, I love you. I’ll see you in a bit,’” Davis said.
Moments later, a speeding pickup truck hit her car as she turned off Getty Street onto Hackley Avenue. Hurt died at the scene.
The pickup driver and an occupant, both males, fled the scene, police said. They have asked for the public’s help in locating them.

“We’ve got some excellent information about the driver of the vehicle,” Muskegon Heights Police Chief Joseph E. Thomas Jr. told MLive on Friday, June 5. “The people are really cooperating with us.”
The Michigan State Police forensics team is poring over the truck in which there appears to be significant evidence, Thomas said, declining to elaborate.
He promised police would close in on the driver soon.
“This person would do himself a favor of turning himself in as soon as possible,” Thomas said. “That’s how good the evidence is.”
Davis spoke with MLive on Friday as he was returning from Jackson after finalizing Hurt’s funeral arrangements. The funeral and viewing will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at the Patience-Montgomery Funeral Home, 406 First St., Jackson.
Because of the coronavirus threat, the service will be held outside to accommodate the more than 100 guests who are expected to say their final goodbyes.
“What gets people is her smile,” Davis said of Hurt. “She had these two huge dimples – you can’t do anything but smile back. It’s contagious, no matter what mood you’re in.”
