At a 22-year-old woman’s vigil, one person described her as an angel filled with life and a sense of peace that made everyone who crossed paths with her happy.

Community members, friends and family with candles in hand gathered Monday night for a vigil outside of NOCO Nutrition to remember the life of Angie Vega, a Greeley woman killed Friday night.

Those who hosted the event requested attendees to bring candles and sunflowers — a favorite of Vega’s —  to honor her life cut short by the 24-year-old man suspected of murdering her.

Vega graduated from Northridge High School in 2018 and was an employee at NOCO Nutrition at the time of her death.

“Her sudden passing has left her family, friends and the entire community heartbroken,” a loved one said. “Tonight we want to take that pain and turn it into something beautiful by remembering Angie.”

The vigil began with prayers and the reading of bible verses to a large crowd of teary-eyed people shocked and sadden by the passing of a young community member.

Anyone who wanted to share a memory or story of Vega at her vigil was welcomed with open arms. A speech written by Vega’s aunt touched attendees’ heart with descriptions of her unique, joy-filled, adventure-loving niece with a heart of gold and many goals and dreams.

“My niece was beautiful, smart, loving and caring,” she said. “My niece cherished life and those in it. She had a beautiful bright smile that could light up a room. She was such a pure soul. I have never seen her mad or having a bad day.”

After the speeches in remembrance of Vega, somber music played over a speaker as the crowd began lighting their candles. Along with offering condolences to loved ones, attendees added flowers and glass candles to Vega’s memorial site created on Saturday afternoon by a group of about 20 people.

A pastor requested a singer to perform a rendition of “Amazing Grace.” Many people in the crowd held each other tight while letting go of the green and white balloons held in Vega’s honor.

“Angie loved everything about life and looked to all the greater things in any situation,” Vega’s aunt said. “My family is going to miss the bond we had shared together, the conversations, the memories, even just seeing her smile.”
