Jupiter's Legacy: How Old The Utopian & Original Union Are - Screen Rant

Jupiter’s Legacy is a multigenerational story that dates back to the late 1920s, with the founding members of the Union of Justice journeying to a mysterious island after Sheldon Sampson (aka, the Utopian) is called there by ancient aliens. Considering the original members are still around in the present day, their powers have granted them with abilities that slow their aging, lengthening their lives. They’re not entirely indestructible, but they have lived much longer than the average person. But how old are they exactly?

The story of the original Union members begins in 1929, just ahead of the stock market crash. Sheldon and Walter’s father, Chester, died by suicide shortly after, leaving his employees out of pensions that he spent on expanding the business. At this point in time, Sheldon is in his late 20s, likely 28. However, when he and the team head to the island, it's four years after Chester's death and Sheldon is in his early 30s. In the present day, Jupiter’s Legacy reveals he’s 120 years old, so being closer to 30 around the time of the stock market crash makes sense. George Hutchence, who also saw his family wealth go down the drain during this time period, is Sheldon’s best friend, which puts him at about the same age as the future Utopian.

Walter is older than Sheldon and took on the burden of being the responsible one whom their father always relied on in running the business. Walter was likely in his early-mid 30s and the oldest of the Union members. Grace Kennedy is an established journalist by 1929 and, considering she later marries Sheldon, the future Lady Liberty is probably around the same age as her husband, if not a couple of years younger. Fitz Small, a former employee of Chester’s who goes on to become The Flare, is in his early 20s at the most in 1929. Mike Wade (who plays Fitz) is over a decade younger than most of his co-stars and that youthful, hopeful nature is on display in his portrayal. He also has less gray hairs than the rest of the Union as adults, which cements his age as the youngest of the group.

Richard Conrad, the last member to join the Union, is already a practicing medical doctor when the rest crosses paths with him on their way to the island in 1933. That should put him at around 30 years old at the very least, likely a bit older since he’s seemingly been a doctor for a few years. Due to the Union’s decelerated aging powers, they grow older at a much slower rate than regular humans. By the present day, the founding members have lived an additional 90 years and are all well past 100 years old. However, they still look incredibly fit and like they’re in their late 50s. Their aging is primarily noticeable thanks to their silver hair, some wrinkles, and the way they carry themselves with a general sense of weariness.

Jupiter’s Legacy is focused on the generational differences between superheroes and that plays into the Union’s ages as well. When they were in their youth, there was more a sense of hope and optimism that was eroded the longer they lived. At 120, The Utopian is still somewhat hopeful, but he’s lost some of his fighting spirit. By comparison, the new generation is less idealistic and that adds to the push-pull dynamic that is at the center of Jupiter’s Legacy
