Original Blue's Clues Host Steve Returns In Touching Anniversary Video - Screen Rant

The original host of Blue's Clues, Steve, released a heartwarming video celebrating the series' 25th anniversary. Blue's Clues premiered on Nick Jr. on September 8, 1996, and focused on a blue-spotted dog named Blue and her human owner who follows her handprints and finds the clues for what Blue wants to do for the day. The series was originally hosted by Steve, played by actor Steve Burns, who left the series in 2002.

In the series, Steve left to go off to college and his younger brother Joe (Donovan Patton) took over for the remainder of the original run. Steve's finale episode ran on April 29, 2002, in a three-part story arc that saw Joe introduced to the series. In reality, Steve Burns left the series because he was losing his hair and didn't want to go bald on a children's television series. He also felt like it was time to leave. However, to an entire generation of kids, Steve was the face of Blue's Clues, and seeing him leave was a sad experience, one that was rather abrupt for many.

Now on the 25th anniversary of Blue's Clues, Nick Jr. released a heartwarming video on Twitter of Steve addressing the now-adult audience who watched Blue's Clues. Similar to the series' Steve, wearing his trademark green striped shirt, speaks directly into the camera to talk to the audience about how his leave for college was very abrupt. He talks about the old times and how far both he, and the audience have come in these 25 years. He says that after all this time, he never forgot the audience and is glad to be a friend. Check out the video below:

Blue's Clues continues to live on, as the show was rebooted in 2019 with Blue's Clues & You!. The series is hosted by Josh (Josh Dela Cruz), who is the cousin of both Steve and Joe. Steve Burns reprised his role as Steve for the first time in seventeen years on the series where audiences found out he started his own detective agency. Burns also lended a helping hand to the producer to help find the new host, helping pass the torch off from one host to another. However, to many, Steve is as much a part of Blue's Clues as Blue herself and instrumental to its legacy as Luke Skywalker is to Star Wars.

Steve's words are a nice reassurance to a generation of kids who are now grown up with their own struggles and stress. Yet, Steve reminds the audience that they have come so far, and it is impressive how much they have all grown in 25 years but still can remain friends. Many works of media that revisit childhood classics like the recent Disney+ series, Monsters At Work, often have to grapple with the realities of growing up, while also giving the audience that watched it the comfort the original programs gave them. Hearing Steve speak is likely a warm comfort to many who grew up watching Blue's Clues, and shows that after all this time, everything and everyone is okay and no matter how much has changed, the memories still remain.
