Ever wonder what it would be like to live in a house designed and built by the man who built your favorite rides at Disneyland? Now, you can. If you have an extra $2.7 million to shell out, that is.
One of Disneyland’s original Imagineers — the term the company uses to describe the people who envision and build its theme parks — Fred Joerger was handpicked by Walt Disney himself to create miniature models of some of the most legendary Disney movies and Disneyland ride concepts in the 1950s and '60s.
Those models were then used for scale to build the actual rides and sets for everything from Sleeping Beauty Castle to the movie sets of “Mary Poppins.”
Joerger, who passed away in 2005 at 91, specialized in on-site art design for rides like Pirates of the Caribbean. He was known as the “resident rock expert” of Disneyland. Some of Joerger’s most famous work includes the rock designs for the Jungle Cruise and Big Thunder Mountain rides.
Located at 11414 Ruggiero Ave. in Lakeview Terrace, a northern suburb of Los Angeles, Joerger’s former home is now available for sale from its current owner, Raffy Krikorian. According to MSN, Krikorian bought the house in 2010 for $374,000 and restored it to its original magnificence.
The home, on a half-acre lot, has three bedrooms, three bathrooms, stained glass windows, frescos on the ceilings, an indoor waterfall and, of course, a wall made of rocks, to name just a few of its accoutrements. The primary bedroom has a closet with ceiling-high mirrors, and the kitchen is fully refurbished with new appliances yet keeps an old-school touch with a brick entryway and what looks to be an open-flame grill. An infinity pool in the backyard with Greek-inspired statues spewing water out of their mouths and tridents in their hands leaves a bit of a remembrance for the pioneer Imagineer.
