Later this week, the quiet, suburban town of Maplewood will become a pantheon for the guitar gods when the annual Django A Gogo festival arrives, celebrating the music of the influential jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt.
The five-day festival is the brainchild of world-renowned guitarist and Maplewood resident Stephane Wrembel, 48, who was raised in Fountainbleu, France, where Reinhardt had spent his final years. Wrembel, a monster player in his own right, began on guitar as a teen imitating Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, but his pursuit took a turn as he studied in Paris. There he was introduced to jazz and heard Reinhardt anew.
