Matildas captain Sam Kerr continues to show her class off the field.
As her team made Australian sporting history by defeating France in the FIFA Women’s World Cup quarter-finals - and sent the country into ecstasy in the process - one young fan who was at the game simply could not believe her luck in the aftermath.

Kerr had spotted a young girl in the crowd of almost 50,000 at Brisbane Stadium.
And with cameras in full view, a fearless Kerr peeled of her shirt and walked over to the excited fan (whose hair, like Kerr’s, was parted in the middle and complete with a pony-tail).
The youngster was utterly delirious as her idol gave her a hug, and then handed her the playing top.
It was just another highlight in a completely memorable night and showed the impact Kerr and her Matildas were having on Australia and young sports fans.
Kerr’s impact on the field may not yet be at a level she would like.
Once again the superstar did not start the game as she fights her way back from a calf injury that has troubled her throughout the tournament.
But Kerr - and indeed all of the Matildas - have been hailed for classy gestures while dealing with the pressure and the excitement of an entire country.
Kerr was applauded on social media for the generous act and making a young fan’s night truly memorable.
“This is just beautiful! A little girl with her home-made ‘Go Matildas’ sign has just had the greatest night of her life!” one fan wrote.
An another said: “Beautiful, Sam Kerr, simply beautiful my lady Matilda.”
And another one fan wrote. “Inspiring the next generation!”
Now, the next question fans want to know is, will Kerr start against England in the Matildas’ semi-final on Wednesday? And will she will inspire us on the pitch?
Neither Kerr nor coach Tony Gustavsson answered that burning query after she played 65 minutes as a substitute and converted her spot-kick in the penalty shootout that helped secure the quarter-final victory.
Could Kerr have started against France on Saturday night?
“I mean, that’s like the million-dollar question, right?” Kerr said after the France game.
“But with everything that’s been going on, the best thing for today was the plan we did and the plan we followed and when I hurt my calf, the plan was to always like, be ready for semi-final time.
“So I could have started but who knows what could have happened? The girls have been smashing it and absolutely dominating, so I think the plan went pretty well.”
Coach Tony Gustavsson added: “It was a massive decision before the game to leave her on the bench. Then it was about the timing. You want the timing right.
“I was informed that she had limited minutes today. Then we needed to put extra time into consideration. What is the risk that she pulls the calf and how many minutes does she actually have?
“That was a massive decision to get that right. I think that we got it right and we should have scored. We had them but then when Sam came on we really had them on the hook.”
