After months of speculation, rumor, and a brief sneak peek for a charity event, Bette Midler has at last confirmed the cast of the original “Hocus Pocus” film will reunite for the impending sequel. Midler, who played lead witch Winifred Sanderson in the original movie, will once again don her flowing robes alongside her sisters Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Mary (Kathy Najimy).
ET Canada reports that Adam Shankman, whose credits include “A Walk to Remember” and “Hairspray,” is attached as the project’s director. The film will also allegedly be on the streaming service, Disney+, and written by screenwriter Jen D’Angelo. As of now, the working title of the “Hocus Pocus” sequel appears to be “Hocus Pocus 2: Rise of the Elderwitch.”
While lovers of the original Halloween favorite are perhaps over the Harvest Moon with the news of the Sanderson sisters' reunion, they’re also probably wondering whether or not other cast members will also make appearances in the new installment. Will Thackeray Binx somehow return in his black cat form to keep the sisters in check? What’s Dani up to in 2020? And are Max and Allison still a thing, or was that strictly a high school relationship?
All these questions—as well as the confirmed plot of the film—remain unanswered. We can consult our own Books as much as we can, and keep all our appendages crossed that this sequel somehow includes yet another Sanderson sister musical sequence.
