And you can bet Joe Gunnis and his EMJ Marketing foursome were happy to have hit the ice.
Gunnis (1-5) picked up his first win of the season at Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre, using a pair of timely steals to help take a 5-4 victory over Protec Video (Wade Gray, 2-4). Leading 2-1 through three ends, Gunnis would steal one in the fourth, and after holding Gray to one in the fifth, would add single points over the next two ends to take a 5-2 lead. Gray would make things interesting in the final end, but would only manage to score two and make it a one-point game.
The contest between Matt Froehlich and Pro-Tec Electric (Stan Barnsley) wasn't as close.
After Barnsley scored one in the first, Froehlich would use the hammer to score a pair and then steal two in the third for a 4-1 lead. Barnsley got one back in the fourth, but after blanking the fifth, Froehlich would put up a four-spot and bring the game to an early end with an 8-2 victory.
Froehlich improved to 5-1 and moved into a tie for first with undefeated BTN Accounting (Danielle Sicinski) and Easy Care Living (Lorraine Arguin), both at 5-0. KMS Construction (Ben Gamble), John’s Music (Ryan Wenarchuk) and KalTire (Rob Sokchoff) sit in a three-team logjam in fourth place at 3-2, with Gray falling to 3-3 with Wednesday’s loss. Walchuk Masonary (Tyler Krupski) sits at 2-3, followed by Gray and Gunnis. Here for the Beer (Patrick Ackerman) and Paws N Play (Donna Ackerman) are both 0-5 and looking for their first wins.
The season will now go into hiatus for the next three weeks, with games tentatively resuming on Dec. 23.
