Connor Martin, the son of CrossFit Kids Founders Jeff and Mikki Martin has written a book — Eat. Sleep. Move. Breathe: The Beginner’s Guide to Living a Healthy Lifestyle that lays out the basics of living a healthy lifestyle in a digestible, easy-to-follow way, Martin explained. The goal is to provide “quick implementable knowledge that will profoundly impact lives and health,” he said.

More about Martin: Martin competed at the first CrossFIt Games in 2007 at the age of 15, and became the youngest CrossFit Seminar Trainer and went on to coach at 150 Level 1 Seminars. Today, he coaches at P3 CrossFit in Houston, TX, works with the Brand X Method—a company that focuses on youth athletic development—and also runs his own remote programming company Compete Elite.

The details:

  • The book focuses on four pillars of health: eating cleaner, sleeping better, moving more and calming your mind.
  • It is already available on Amazon, both in paperback and in Kindle versions; however, its official launch date is November 30.
  • Dr. Lars Thestrup and Dr. Jennifer Pfleghaar are the book’s co-authors. Thestrup, who completed his M.D. at the Medical College of Virginia and his emergency medicine residency at Johns Hopkins University, is passionate about health and fitness and its role in the prevention of disease. Pfleghaar is an emergency medical physician in Ohio.

One big thing: Martin hopes that CrossFit athletes will see the book and use it as a way to reach out to and motivate the people in their lives who need it the most; it is written and organized in a way that won’t seem overwhelming to someone who might otherwise be reluctant to make big changes in their lives.

  • “We found that the people who need this the most are often too intimidated or embarrassed to go to a gym, but also not motivated enough to actually read a long-winded book, he said. “I think the appeal to CrossFitters really lies in the person in their family that won’t ever join the gym.”

The bottom line: Martin hopes those who read the book will take away “one tangible thing” in sleep, nutrition, exercise, and breathing that they can do on a daily basis to improve their lives.
“I hope it speaks to the large group of people who need something like this but don’t know where to start,” he said.
