ER was the springboard for none other than actor George Clooney when he took on the role of Dr Doug Ross.

As the one and only Silver Fox turns 62 today, Saturday, May 6, Express.co.uk takes a look at where the original stars of ER are now.

Doug Ross - George Clooney

Pediatrician Doug Ross was ER's heartthrob and a womaniser, not that he ever let his love life affect his work.

Actor George left midway through season five and earned two Emmy Award nominations for his role as Dr Ross.

After leaving the show, he went on to star in films like the Ocean's trilogy, Good Night and Good Luck and O Brother, Where Art Thou which won him a Golden Globe for Best Actor in 2001.

He has since founded the tequila brand Casamigos with his friend Rande Gerber and got married to Lebanese-British barrister Amal Clooney in 2014.

Mark Greene - Anthony Edwards

Chief resident Mark Greene had a shocking exit when he died in season eight of a brain tumour.

Actor Anthony Edwards reportedly left ER so he could spend more time with his family but has remained in the entertainment business.

He won his first Emmy Award as an executive producer for the TV movie Temple Grandin in 2010 and produced the 2016 movie My Dead Boyfriend.

Edwards has also had parts Apple TV+ series WeCrashed and Netflix drama Inventing Anna.

Susan Lewis - Sherry Stringfield

Second-year resident Susan Lewis actress Sherry Stringfield left in 2005 as she was "ready for new roles" but returned to the show years later from season eight to 12.

After the medical drama, she appeared in shows like Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders and Under the Dome but hasn't had an onscreen credit since 2017.

John Carter - Noah Wyle

John Carter had some difficult moments during the show, including in season six when he and medical student Lucy Knight (Kellie Martin) were stabbed by a schizophrenic patient and he struggled with survivors' guilt for years as she died from her injuries.

Since he left in season 12, actor Noah Wyle has been in The Red Line, Leverage: Redemption and The Librarians, just to name a few.

Jing-Mei "Deb" Chen - Ming-Na Wen

Deb worked her way up the ladder, starting off as a medical student and later becoming the chief resident of the hospital.

Actress Ming-Na Wen may now be recognised for featuring in The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Young Sheldon and Hacks.

Peter Benton - Eriq La Salle

Peter Benton had a number of rows with his colleagues over the years and left in season eight for another hospital job with better money and hours.

Actor Eriq La Salle has been in How to Make it in America, A Gifted Man and 24, and has directed episodes in shows such as Chicago PD, Once Upon a Time and Lucifer.

Carol Hathaway - Julianna Margulies

ER nurse and ex-girlfriend of Doug Ross, Carol had on-off relationship with Clooney's character but in the final ever episode, they got together for good.

Actress Julianna Marguiles starred in The Good Wife, The Good Fight and most recently, Apple TV+'s The Morning Show.

Jeanie Boulet - Gloria Reuben

Physician's assistant Jeanie Boulet, who later became head of the HIV Clinic, was played by actress Gloria Reuben.

She appeared in the series The First Lady and also starred in the 2022 movie Firestarter.

ER is available to watch on NBC in the USA and All4 in the UK.
