Originally opening November 12, 1989, at the Martin Beck Theatre, the musical played more than 1,000 performances on Broadway.
Members of the original Broadway cast of the Tony-winning musical Grand Hotel will reunite early next year in honor of director-choreographer Tommy Tune’s 85th birthday.
Staged February 26–27, 2024, at 54 Below, Grand Hotel: The 35th Anniversary Original Broadway Cast Reunion Concert will feature original Broadway cast members and special guest stars to perform highlights from the landmark musical.
It’s Berlin, 1928. Check into Grand Hotel, where the music never stops. Featuring music and lyrics by Robert Wright and George Forrest, and additional music and lyrics by Maury Yeston, the concert is produced, conceived, and directed by original cast member and Tony nominee Walter Willison, with musical direction by Alex Rybeck.
The roles of Wolfie Bratts and Hildeguard Bratts, originated on Broadway by Lynette Perry and Jennifer Lee Andrews, will be played by each of their daughters, Susie McCollum and Harper Lee Andrews.
Grand Hotel began previews at the Martin Beck Theatre October 16, 1989, later transferring to the Gershwin Theatre. The musical played a total of 31 previews and 1,017 regular performances. Directed and choreographed by Tommy Tune, the original cast featured the late David Carroll, Michael Jeter, and Liliane Montevecchi. The production won five Tony Awards, including awards for Tune’s direction and choreography and Jeter's performance.
