Shut down by a devastating fire in May, Moe’s Original BBQ in Orange Beach has announced that it’ll be back in business on Friday.
“We did not let the catastrophic fire or the hurricane that followed keep us down. We looked to the positive and saw it as an opportunity for a new beginning to come back even better!” co-owner Lee Nelson said in the announcement. “We are thrilled to be able to open back up for our customers and supporters who were there for us through these difficult times.”
According to information released by the chain, the rebuilding effort has brought some changes. Some 800 square feet of additional space expands the dining room, bathrooms and kitchen. Salads have been added to the menu. So have bushwackers and other mixed drinks. New technology should facilitate dine-in and takeout-ordering.
Operators asked patrons to “bear with us as we work the opening kinks out” at a soft opening that started Wednesday. The restaurant at 25603 Perdido Beach Blvd. will open to the public at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22. Live music will start at 6:30 p.m. with performances by singer-songwriters Brent Cobb and Rob Aldridge.
After the fire, Orange Beach Fire Chief Mike Kimmerling said the blaze had started in the restaurant’s smoking pit and spread into the eaves and attic space of the adjacent main structure. The side facing the smoking pit was extensively damaged and there was some water damage inside the restaurant as well. In late September, the restaurant notified patrons that construction work “took a little hit from Hurricane Sally” but would continue.
