STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Original Goodfella’s will be vacating its Dongan Hills brick-and-mortar location for what is slated to be a South Shore opening, the Advance learned Monday.
According to the owner, Scot Cosentino, The Original Goodfella’s is slated to move to the Great Kills area of Staten Island “in the coming weeks.” The exact location is not confirmed, but Cosentino claims an announcement will be made when details are solidified.
“A lot of our customers are out in Great Kills,” Cosentino told the Advance. “It makes sense for us to be out there. We’re looking forward to having the larger space.”
According to management, the restaurant, at 1718 Hylan Blvd., will continue its service of indoor dining, pickup and delivery for “as long as they can.” There is no official last day of business announced publicly.
The popular Staten Island spot was opened in 1993 by Cosentino and his brother, Marc, a retired police sergeant, and is a popular with former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and ex-Gov.gov George Pataki. It has since earned the title of “World’s Best Pizza” for its red pepper, sausage and fennel-topped “Smokin’ Goodfella.”
Goodfella’s has been included in much of the Staten Island Advance’s pizza coverage throughout the years, including snagging a finalist position in the “Best of Staten Island” Reader’s Choice poll. One of its most famous pies is the “Classic Vodka Pie.” (Just to skip down memory lane, Goodfella’s was where Mayor Bill DeBlasio was caught eating pizza with a fork and knife on Staten Island. He ordered the well-known vodka pie.)

BTW: In addition to the location at 1718 Hylan Blvd. in Dongan Hills, there is a restaurant under the title of “Goodfella’s” at 1817 Victory Blvd. in Westerleigh. It is not part of the same franchise.
