Steve Fields steakhouse will reopen in Plano, near the original at Park & Preston - The Dallas Morning News

Restaurateur Steve Fields will open a new restaurant at Park and Preston in Plano — two years after his Steve Fields Steak & Lobster Lounge closed at the same intersection.

The new Steve Fields restaurant will be at the southeast corner, in place of Brick House Tavern + Tap. It’s expected to open in September 2021.

Fields says the new restaurant will “have all the elements of the old restaurant,” like the piano lounge and the menu of steaks and seafood. He expects it to be a little more upscale than the original Steve Fields.

The original was open for 14 years and had live piano seven nights a week. Fields says some families spent multiple holidays, like Mother’s Day and Thanksgiving, at his restaurant. “Some of them were a little upset” when the restaurant closed, he says. But its demise was coming: Fields sold the building in the mid-2010s, then continued to operate the restaurant, paying rent to the new owners for five years.

The building has since become a Velvet Taco.

Fields says he wasn’t looking for new real estate. But the space at 4900 W. Park Blvd., within eyeshot of the former restaurant, was “something we can’t pass up.”

"The corner became available and we said, 'hey, this is something we can't pass up,'" says restaurateur Steve Fields about the new restaurant he plans to open in 2021 at 4900 W. Park Blvd. in Plano.

“I didn’t know at the time if I had the energy or stamina to do it again,” Fields says. “But after going through that year of COVID and not leaving the house, I’m ready. I am ready!”

About 25% of the menu will be different than the original Steve Fields. The popular filet mignon and seafood-stuffed lobster will be back. And Fields isn’t concerned about getting his loyal customers to return. Many fine-dining restaurants struggled during the coronavirus pandemic, but Fields believes there will be a “surge” of customers who are ready to get dressed up and spend big bucks on food and wine.

He’s enclosing the 1,200-square-foot patio — the opposite of what most other restaurant owners have done to accommodate cautious diners during the pandemic. Fields knows the move is surprising, but he believes patios don’t work at fancy restaurants:

“If you get dressed up, and you’ve got on a suit coat or a nice dress and makeup, you don’t want to sit outside,” he says, “especially in Texas.”

Steve Fields’ new steakhouse, which doesn’t have an official name yet, will be at 4900 W. Park Blvd., Plano. It’s expected to open in September 2021.
