Pure Scot creates 'world's first' Scotch and tonic RTD - The Spirits Business

Blended whisky brand Pure Scot has entered the ready-to-drink category with two expressions, including the “world’s first” canned Scotch and tonic water.

Pure Scot has blended its whisky with tonic water and cola for its new RTD range

The new 8% ABV products are Pure Scot Virgin Oak & Smoked Cola and Pure Scot Signature & Tonic. The Scotch and tonic RTD is described as a “revolutionary pairing” that challenges those who claim there is only one way to drink whisky. Pure Scot whisky is made at Lowland distillery Bladnoch, which was acquired by Australian businessman David Prior in 2015.

The ready-to-drink (RTD) products were designed by Pure Scot’s Australia-based team and some of the country’s leading bartenders.

“Pure Scot has been growing in Australia with many of our top bars now reaching for our whisky to create cocktails that take advantage of Pure Scot’s flavour profile,” said Will Pitchforth, head of commercial.

“With the shift towards more at-home consumption, we decided to bring some of our favourite recipes to consumers in a ready-to-drink format. Pure Scot and tonic is the world’s first Scotch and tonic ready-to-drink cocktail, for a light and refreshing long drink that we know will bring Scotch to a whole new group of drinkers.”

The Scotch and tonic RTD is made with the classic Pure Scot blended Scotch whisky, which has a distinctive honeyed flavour, and a citrusy tonic water.

The Pure Scot Virgin Oak & Smoked Cola is made with ‘all-natural’ cola and Pure Scot Virgin Oak, a ‘spicy and complex’ whisky.

The RTDs are available to buy in Australia from Pure Scot’s website for RRP AU$8.99 (US$6.50) per 250ml can, or in a four-pack for AU$28.99 (US$21) or 24-pack for RRP AU$169.99 (US$123). It is distributed by Iconic Beverages and The Beverage Company in Australia.

The ready-to-drink category has witnessed an influx of new products over the past year, however very few of them have been whisky-based.

One brand tapping into the whisky-based RTD category was Diageo-owned Haig Club single grain Scotch, which created a range of RTD cans in partnership with David Beckham in June 2020.
