In late 2021, Alamo Drafthouse rechristened its lower Manhattan theater as the Ivan Reitman Cinema, erecting a mammoth Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man statue and a commemorative plaque honoring the filmmaker, who sadly passed the following February.
Since then, the location has been a must-stop destination for Ghostbusters fans, with today’s news undoubtedly expected to further draw a crowd, as Alamo Drafthouse has announced a first-ever screening of Ghostbusters: The Preview Cut, with the event hosted by Ivan Reitman’s son, Jason.
Taking place Sunday, July 30th, two screenings have been announced, scheduled for 6:00 pm and 6:30 pm, with Alamo Drafthouse providing the below write-up:
Join us at the Ivan Reitman Theater for the first-ever public screening of GHOSTBUSTERS: The Preview Cut, hosted by director Ivan Reitman’s son, Jason.
Discovered on a cassette tape during research for GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE, the “Preview Cut” of GHOSTBUSTERS (1984) is drawn from an early workprint of the film. It features alternate takes, incomplete (or missing) effects and score, and approximately nine minutes of scenes that didn’t make it to the final cut. The cut was never streamed online and only briefly made available as part of a boxed set release.
A monumental screening for those who’d like to attend; tickets are now available through Alamo Drafthouse (SOLD OUT!), priced at $18.99.
Jason Reitman assumed the directorial reins from his father for 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, co-writing the script with filmmaking partner Gil Kenan. The pair are behind the forthcoming sequel set to hit cinemas this December, with Reitman acting as a co-producer and Kenan taking the director’s seat.
