The Georgia High School Association, according to a report from SCORE Atlanta, has decided its football teams will remain on schedule to open the regular season Sept. 4.

GHSA executive director Robin Hines met with his health and safety committee Wednesday to discuss growing concerns from the state's health department that playing football would put participants at greater risk of being exposed to COVID-19.

According to the report, preseason scrimmages have been canceled but Georgia's regular season remains at 10 games with a full postseason planned.
