OROVILLE, Calif. - The historic State Theatre in Oroville is continuing to get refurbished now, during the pandemic.

A restoration artist has been working to uncover the original artwork that is on the ceilings and walls of the theatre. CLICK HERE to see an article about that restoration work being conducted by Bay Area artist Beate Bruhl.

Friday the chandeliers were replaced. The fixtures were replicated from what was seen in the early theatre photographs. the new chandeliers were designed and fabricated by Quality Lighting of Auburn. Ten chandeliers and four matching wall scones were installed in the lobby. They replace the temporary lighting that has been in place for the last few years.

Five of the ten chandeliers were purchased with matching funds from Bonnie Huntington and her annual "Bonnie's Blessing" campaign for the State Theatre. The other five were paid for by Stan and Jeanne Hall of Oroville. (Stan Hall is seen standing in the photograph)

The theatre opened back in April 1928. 2020 has been a very quiet year, with the season shutting down early due to Covid-19 restrictions. It has been a great opportunity to continue renovations, while theatre patrons are not in the building.

The State Theatre Arts Guild (STAGE) is in negotiations to take ownership of the historic building.

Replacement of the theatre solar array and roof are projects that will be completed when the ownership transfer is completed. STAGE is a member-supported 501 c (3) nonprofit organization and all donations are tax-deductible.
