If you’re already feeling a little weird and out of place as Seattle reopens from months of COVID-19 restrictions, be careful visiting HoneyHole’s new Central District location.
For one, E Pike’s tiny dive of big sandwich love got its shit together enough to expand? Whoa! For two, the new joint is so enormous that you’ll probably never have to stand in line and they might never run out of house pastrami. And three, a HoneyHole patio?
But all of this bizarro world HoneyHole exists now on E Jefferson where the Pike/Pine born sandwich bar has opened in a gigantic new space and gnawed out a new home in a bunker-like former modern steakhouse.
CHS reported in April on the plans for HoneyHole’s takeout and catering business-friendly expansion in the more than 4,000-square-foot restaurant space just a few blocks of 12th Ave across from Seattle U’s Championship Field. The move followed January’s sale of HoneyHole to wife and husband new owners Kristin and Patrick, we kid you not, Rye.
Founded by brothers Sean and Devon London in 1999, HoneyHole earned a spot as one of Capitol Hill’s most loved affordable dining and drink options. The Ryes have hopes for new HoneyHole locations to grow from the loved but limited E Pike original including aspirations for more space to handle a booming demand for catering and delivery.
The new HoneyHole has kitchen space and room for smoking the sandwich shop’s house meats plus an outdoor patio for outdoor seating. The new space has been designed, HH says, “with all the charm and eclectic design of the Capitol Hill location and will serve the same menu including all the fan favorites.” The outdoor patio and will soon and a full bar rounding into shape as restaurants near the June 30th deadline for the state to lift all COVID-19 restrictions.
In addition to lots and lots of room, the same sandwiches you’ve loved, and plenty of booze, you will also find a bit of Pike/Pine nostalgia as the Ryes have dug up some original HoneyHole signage.
UPDATE: As for actually sitting down inside either HH location, the time has come with both HoneyHoles now open for in-person service. Late night hours will begin again on E Pike starting July 1st.
