Debbie Gibson recalls her uncredited role in the original Ghostbusters - Ghostbusters News

Years before the 1987 hit “Only In My Dreams” ascended Debbie Gibson to the top of the Billboard charts, she’d come face to face with a grimacing Terror Dog, nabbing the role of an extra in the original Ghostbusters.

In the film, Gibson plays the uncredited role of the birthday girl, seen moments before Louis Tully (Rick Moranis) is possessed by hellhound Vinz Clortho, seated inside Central Park’s Tavern on the Green restaurant.

In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Gibson recalled the nearly forgotten performance, astonished at the topic, saying, “Oh my God! You dug up Ghostbusters?”

“I remember getting the call because I was doing a lot of background acting work as a kid because I just wanted to be there. I was the birthday girl… We filmed all throughout the middle of the night at Tavern on the Green. And my whole family and I went to the 69-cent movie theater in town and waited for my one second of glory. When we saw me on the screen, we all screamed, and everybody in the theater was like, shut up!… It’s so exciting to see yourself on a big screen when you’re that young.”

When watching the scene, Gibson would joke, “There I was, the birthday girl. I turned my head, and now the server is blocking me. Darn you! Darn you, server!”

Proving to be one of the film’s little-known factoids, Gibson would first surprise her fans in 2016 by posting about her big-screen debut.
