Former high school with original features lists for just $60K - New York Post

A former high school that sits on a nearly two-acre plot of land has hit the market for just $60,000.

Located in Burbank, Oklahoma, with a population of 123, the school closed down in 1968 and was left abandoned.

Built in 1924, the school has been converted into a single-family residence and is made up of five bedrooms and four baths.

“The large lot size and open floor plan provide endless possibilities,” the listing notes. “With some imagination, this could be the perfect home for you.”

Classrooms, the gym, and many of the school’s old features left behind remain.

Built during the Roaring Twenties, the school occupies over 17,400 square feet.

The listing notes that the school can also be used for commercial business space.

As seen in the listing photos, the school hall, cafeteria and other rooms are rundown and would need some renovations.

The bedrooms and bathrooms were converted from the classrooms. But a few of the classrooms still have bulletin boards, chairs and stationery.

Along the hallways, janitor equipment, trophy cabinets and old lockers can also be seen.

Meanwhile, the original school district and board of educators signs are still located throughout the building, allowing someone to step back in time.

Cynthia and Time White with Bill White Realty hold the listing.

Phones of husband-and-wife realtors Cindy and Tim White have been ringing off the hook. They repurposed the space to serve as their home for the past two decades.

“The response is out of nowhere. People told us we were nuts for listing this thing,” Tim tells Architectural Digest. “Yesterday we were sitting at lunch and a guy called from Florida. He’d heard about the property on XM Radio. We have literally been on the phone every day for hours talking to people about this space.”

The realtors are based in Independence, Kansas, about an hour and a half from the property, but felt a particular pull to take on the unusual listing.

About two weeks after listing it, they’ve received numerous offers and anticipate selling the school turned for well over its $60,000 asking price.

Other features of the space include a baseball diamond and an auditorium with about 250 seats that would allow “basically everybody in town to come and bring a friend,” Tim adds.

Cindy explains that the resort-like amenities have also drawn in a number of city dwellers looking to escape into an all-inclusive country abode.

They say they’ve received a few local calls, but most are coming from out of state, with a New York couple currently eyeing a contract on the space.

While Burbank is a low-key area, it’s not far from the shoot location for Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio’s highly anticipated drama, “Killer of the Flower Moon.”

“There’s a city hall there, and there’s one employee. She does everything!” Cindy said.
