Chris Evans has responded to reports of Marvel Studios plotting to reunite the original Avengers team, stating no one has contacted him about returning to the MCU as Captain America.
"It's news to me," Evans told The View about the rumoured MCU return of the OG Avengers. While he would not be opposed to the idea, he confirmed that no one had yet approached him about bringing Captain America back, and he would personally only consider reprising the role if it felt like the right move for the character.
"I always see those reports, too--it's news to me. I think every couple of months, someone says, 'They're getting Downey and Hemsworth and Scarlett, and everyone's coming back. No one has spoken to me about it," Evans said, adding that he is "very protective" because it's a "precious role," so "it would have to be just right."
Earlier this month, Variety reported that Marvel Studios was considering getting the OG Avengers ensemble together for a new project, including Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark/Iron Man and Scarlett Johansson's Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, with Evans potentially reprising his role as Steve Rogers/Captain America.
However, the report claimed Marvel hadn't "committed" to the drastic proposal yet, and MCU boss Kevin Feige recently denied such talks had taken place.
Marvel has several projects on the way, including a new Captain America movie, Brave New World, which will see Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson embracing the mantle passed to him by Steve Rogers. However, release date changes brought on by a series of delays have left Deadpool 3 as the only MCU movie coming out next year.
