Marvel has shared a first look at Original X-Men #1, showing the team facing off against the power of the Phoenix.
Original X-Men launches this December and is written by Christos Gage with art by Ryan Stegman. The first issue finds the original five X-Men in another universe where they face off against none other than the mighty Phoenix. Marvel's first look at the comic revealed five interior pages, giving fans a glimpse of the multiversal Phoenix's power. One page sees Phoenix raining down fire and stopping the X-Men in their tracks, while other pages show her reflecting on past versions of the character, from times when she was powerful enough to destroy huge Marvel threats including Thanos and Ultron. The final preview page shows Phoenix speaking with a younger Jean Grey before sending the X-Men team back on their mission.

The Original X-Men Team Are Back To 'Shake Up The Marvel Universe'
With the launch of the new Original X-Men series, Marvel promises to launch a story that will 'shake the whole Marvel Universe'. The series will see Cyclops, Marvel Girl (Jean Grey), Beast, Iceman and Angel set off on a 'multiversal mystery'. The five teammates were the first to bear the X-Men name during the original X-Men run that lasted from 1963 to 1970. The title was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and would later grow in popularity with 1975's Uncanny X-Men led by David Cockrum and Chris Claremont. Since then, the X-Men franchise has spawned numerous spin-off books including New Mutants and X-Force, as well as appearing in various other media, including films and video games, with reboot plans in motion for the X-Men to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Spearheading the new Original X-Men series, both Gage and Stegman are no strangers to the X-Men universe. Gage wrote the miniseries World War Hulk: X-Men, an X-Men/Spider-Man crossover series, as well as worked on X-Men Legacy in 2012. Stegman provided interior work for X-Men: Red #2, as well as a cover for X-Men: Gold #25 in 2018. He also has credits on other X-Men related titles, including Trials of X Vol. 11 and Wolverine: Exit Wounds.
Original X-Men #1 goes on sale on Dec. 20 from Marvel Comics.
