Austin businessman Ted Lusher is parting with an extensive collection of artifacts from Texas history, one of which is an original announcement of the fall of the Alamo.
Bids are starting at $75,000 for the prized document, which was written by Thomas Gay and posted around the country to spread the news.
“I have just received information by Col. William T. Austin of the fall of the Alimo [sic], and massacre [sic] of our countrymen in that garrison,” the bulletin reads.

Gay referred to the mission as the “Alimo” throughout the entire document.
Over 160 items are up for auction from Lusher’s collection, including a rare guidebook written for Texas newcomers that features an early map of Texas and one of the first known illustrations of the Alamo.
Lusher is not a Texas native, but moved to the Lone Star State from Kansas City in the early 1980s, according to Heritage Auctions.

Forty years of collecting Texas artifacts followed. Throughout that time, he got into multiple bidding wars with Alamo enthusiast and musician Phil Collins.
Bidding starts at 3 p.m. today. Lusher hopes the artifacts will remain in their home state.
