Avon, N.Y. — The original Tom Wahl's celebrated a milestone Thursday.
The restaurant is now listed on the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry.
Tom Wahl's opened March 19, 1955 on East Main Street in Avon.
Founder Tom Wahl sold the brand to Bill Gray's Inc. 1986, but there are still seven Tom Wahl's locations in the Rochester-Finger Lakes region.
Wahl, now 92, said quality was the key to his success — and it's a formula that has stood the test of time.
"Everything worked out so very well," Wahl said. "I would do the same thing over again if I had to live my life, so I think that's a pretty good testament to satisfaction."
As for the key to Wahl's personal longevity?
"Eat a lot of cheeseburgers."
"Drink a lot of root beer and eat a lot of French fries with salt. It's my favorite meal," he said. "I've eaten thousands of them, so it must work. I may get some disagreement from the medical community, but everybody's got their own formula; that's mine."
