Several years back, 6sqft told the story of the original Coney Island hot dog. Started in 1867 by German immigrant Charles Feltman, who’s considered the inventor of the hot dog on a bun, the Coney Island eatery and amusement park Feltman’s eventually closed in 1954. But brothers Michael and Joe Quinn brought the brand back in 2015, in part because they themselves love Coney Island red hots but more so to honor the legacy of their late brother Jimmy, who died in the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks at just 23. This year, they’ll continue to honor Jimmy with a special fundraiser for Tuesday’s Children, to which they’ll donate 100 percent of proceeds from the new Feltman’s 19th Annual Jimmy Quinn Baseball Game Fundraiser Package.

James Francis Quinn worked at financial services firm Cantor Fitzgerald, which was located in the North Tower. According to Feltman’s, Jimmy loved his family more than anything and “was the ultimate #1 die-hard New York Mets fan.” So every summer since his passing, nearly 200 family members and friends put on matching t-shirts for the Annual Jimmy Quinn Mets Game at Citi Field. They also gather each September 11th to read Jimmy’s name at the 9/11 Memorial ceremony.

But of course, this year looks a bit different in the midst of the COVID pandemic. While the Mets are playing, the stadium is closed to fans. And the National September 11 Memorial & Museum announced that they will not have the traditional “reading of the names” at this year’s ceremony. But despite these curveballs, “the Quinn brothers refuse to cancel their important tradition of honoring their brother (and the team he loved unconditionally).”
Joe Quinn, an army veteran, said:
We revived Feltman’s legacy in 2015 to honor our brother Jimmy, and the childhood dream the three of us once shared of starting our own business together. So in many ways, our 19th Annual Jimmy Quinn Baseball Game Fundraiser package is a culmination of Jimmy’s dreams and passions, which, while bittersweet, is made more sweet than bitter because it gives back to the families of 9/11 victims.

The Jimmy Quinn Baseball Game Fundraiser Package ($64.78) includes Feltman’s all-natural hot dogs, mustard, buns, and the 19th Annual Jimmy Quinn Memorial T-Shirt. The t-shirts are also available separately for $29.99. One hundred percent of all proceeds will go to Tuesday’s Children, a nonprofit that supports the children and families of 9/11 victims, first responders, fallen military, and people all over the world affected by terrorism, military conflict, or mass violence.
