Hours later, Gaga pulled out another showstopper, a voluminous look from Sarah Burton’s spring/summer 2021 collection for Alexander McQueen. All-black with tiers of Chantilly lace and a corseted bodice, the look was stellar when Burton introduced it in December on model Nyagua Ruea within the brand’s lookbook. Gaga played up the retro vibe by adding on her shades and an old-school it-bag: Saint Laurent’s horned Mombasa, a mainstay from Tom Ford’s years at the brand.
Yesterday’s Giuseppe di Morabito puff-sleeved dress—black, white, and covered in floral embroidery—certainly kept with the classic theme, as did her choice in accessories. Drop earrings from Oscar de la Renta, glittering diamond rings by Ana Khouri, and a Mark Cross trunk clutch polished off the look. Cross, a favorite accessories designer of Grace Kelly, was an inspired choice.
Gaga and stylists Sandra Amador and Tom Eerebout know how to create a look with drama and have turned her New York trip into a fashion showcase. Much like their work with the star during her A Star is Born awards season appearances, the clothes have been dramatic crowd pleasers that speak to Gaga’s place on Hollywood’s A-list. As she has some time left in Manhattan, that can only mean more great style is on the horizon.
