ANN ARBOR, MI -- Iorio’s Gelateria is set to open its new location this month, moving into and sharing a space with The Original Cottage Inn, Iorio’s owner Nick Lemmer confirmed to The Ann Arbor News/MLive.
Although the gelato company was nearing 10 years at its location on East William Street in Ann Arbor, Lemmer said the move is about “dollars and cents.” The Original Cottage Inn is just two doors down from Iorio’s current location.
During the pandemic, Iorio’s expanded its menu to include macaroons, tiramisu, cheesecake and cupcakes.
“We’ve turned into less of a gelato company and more dessert and Italian-food-centric,” Lemmer said.
The new additions will make up The Original Cottage Inn’s dessert menu, Lemmer said.
“I can’t really do great dessert…You need a whole other kitchen for that,” said The Original Cottage Inn owner Jim Michos, adding that he is “so excited” to bring on Iorio’s.
The two restaurants will share the same space, Michos said, with Cottage Inn seating on the left and Iorio’s located on the right.
Iorio’s should be open inside Cottage Inn by the end of August, Michos said.
