Diablo II's upcoming remastered edition will let players pick up right where they left off.

According to IGN Middle East, producer Matthew Cederquist excitedly advised classic Diablo II fans to keep their saves. They can be imported into the remastered edition just as if they were made yesterday.

“Back when we were working on [the remaster], we wondered if the old save files would work, so we kind of shoved it in, and it worked! So yes, your local single-player save files will carry over,” Cederquist explained.

This feature will only work with the PC version of the game. The Diablo II remaster will be available on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Switch. You won't be able to transfer PC saves to consoles, however.

But there's plenty of reason to start anew. Diablo II Resurrected is a thorough visual overhaul of the original game. It will allow you to play with multiple characters, with cross-progression between them. For anyone interested in playing Diablo II the way it was when it first released, there's also a toggle to swap between both legacy and remaster graphics.

This is the second time fans will have the chance to try out a modern version of the dungeon crawling franchise. For the first Diablo title, Blizzard and GOG.com revived it and offered Battle.net matchmaking support and a Windows 10-optimized version.

Diablo II Resurrected is set to release later this year. There's no concrete date for when to expect it just yet. With the save functionality in mind for PC users, it's a good idea to start digging out those files now.
