Purple Bed Sheets Review for 2021: Original and SoftStretch - Healthline

mixdes.blogspot.com

If you’re looking for new sheets, you probably want a set that’s soft, breathable, and fits your bed well.

Purple sheets claim to deliver on all of those marks. In fact, the company says that using Purple bedsheets will enhance the benefits of the Purple Mattress. They claim that sheets from other brands tend to use constricting fibers that take away from the sleep experience.

How do these claims stack up? We took a deep dive into Purple sheets, detailing the pros and cons, price, purchase options, and a first-hand review of how Purple SoftStretch Sheets perform.

Pros

  • Very soft
  • Stretchy
  • Fit on the bed without wrinkling
  • Fitted sheet has strong elastic

Cons

  • The material for the SoftStretch Sheets is on the heavier side, and may not be suitable for hot sleepers.
  • Some reviewers complain that Purple sheets are not very durable.

Purple offers two sets of sheets: Purple Sheets, their original sheet set, and Purple SoftStretch Sheets, their more luxurious version.

Most sets come with a fitted sheet, a flat sheet, and two standard pillowcases. However, there are a few exceptions.

  • The twin and twin XL sizes come with just one pillowcase.
  • The split king and split California king sizes come with two fitted sheets.
  • The king, split king, and California king sizes come with king pillowcases.

A note on editorial testing

Sifting through product descriptions and customer reviews can be overwhelming. We’re here to make researching products easier.

In some cases, that means having our writers and editors test products to see how they perform in real life. In others, we rely on crowdsourcing reviewer feedback from retail sites.

For this review, the writer tested Purple SoftStretch Sheets. We also reviewed online customer feedback for the Purple Sheets.

Purple SoftStretch Sheets

  • Material: 63 percent rayon from bamboo viscose, 27 percent polyester, and 10 percent spandex
  • Sizes: Twin/twin XL, full, queen, king/California king, and split king
  • Colors: True White, Stormy Grey, Soft Lilac, Natural Oat, Morning Mist, and Deep Purple

Unboxing

The Purple SoftStretch Sheets arrive in a sturdy box that I think makes what’s inside feel really special. The sheets are surprisingly heavy. I’m used to picking up sheets that are featherlight, but these weigh more than I expected. (More on what this means in a bit.)

They’re also noticeably soft right out of the box. You know how you usually have to wash your sheets a few times to give them that softer, “broken in” feeling? Well, not with these.

Washing and drying

I was interested in how the sheets would hold up in the wash, so I tried washing and drying them in my washing machine. They held up just fine and retained that same softness.

Making the bed

True to their name, the Purple SoftStretch Sheets are super stretchy. I was able to get the fitted sheet around my mattress, which has a 10-inch height — without wrestling with the sheets. And, I could do so without any bunching at the corners, something I know annoys plenty of people.

I also feel like there’s a lot of extra room if your mattress is taller than 10 inches. I think the large elastic around the fitted sheet is visually unappealing, but it’s not a deal-breaker.

Oddly enough, the stretchy material makes it so that you can pull both the fitted sheet and the top sheet tight to completely eliminate wrinkles. As someone who would never iron my sheets (and ironing these sheets isn’t recommended anyway), I never knew that wrinkle-free sheets would bring me such joy. But here we are.

One other thing to note: The pillowcases seemed a little too large for my standard pillows.

Sleeping

The stretchy material these sheets are made from is specifically designed to help you get the most out of a Purple Mattress. While I don’t have a Purple Mattress, I have to say that my mattress did feel slightly more welcoming. And sleeping on the pillowcases feels really nice against your face.

As for the downsides, I like a lighter material that feels more like a cloud. These sheets are more like a “thin blanket” to me, and, even though they’re very soft, I was a bit hot and uncomfortable when sleeping.

I think that, for cold winter nights, these could be my go-to. But I might have to swap them out during warmer months.

Purple Sheets

  • Material: 10 percent spandex, and 90 percent bamboo-derived viscose
  • Sizes: Twin/twin XL, full/full XL/queen, king/California king, and split king
  • Colors: White, Slate, Sand, and Purple

These are Purple’s original sheets. While they have the same amount of stretch as the SoftStretch Sheets, the rest of the fabric is viscose (not polyester). They’re lighter than the SoftStretch Sheets, so they might be better if you sleep hot.

Another difference is the color options. The Purple Sheets only come in a handful of basic colors.

Reviews for these sheets are mostly positive. People describe them as soft and comfortable, and they say the fitted sheet stays put throughout the night.

A few reviewers note issues with pilling and durability, saying that the sheets don’t hold up in the wash as well as they’d hoped. That may be because they’re thinner than the SoftStretch Sheets.

If you’re a warm sleeper, the Purple Sheets may be a better option than the Purple SoftStretch Sheets. Even though both sets are advertised as breathable, the SoftStretch Sheets aren’t as light as other sheets, and it’s apparent when you first hold them.

However, if you prioritize softness, the SoftStretch Sheets are a great option. I think they’re like wrapping up in a soft jersey t-shirt every night.

Purple also sells sheets for kids. They’re made of the same material as the Purple SoftStretch Sheets. They only come in twin size.

Purple recommends machine washing their sheets on cold with like colors.

To dry them, you have a few options. You can tumble dry on low or with no heat. However, Purple says the best option is hanging them to dry.

You can buy Purple sheets from:

If you buy directly from Purple, you get free shipping. They sometimes offer sales, and they always offer a 10 percent discount to the following groups:

You need to verify your eligibility. After that, you’ll receive your 10 percent off discount code.

If you’ve purchased sheets online before, you know it can be a total hit or miss — so you might be nervous about buying them. Thankfully, Purple has a 30-day return policy for their sheets, which begins on the delivery date.

There’s also a 1-year limited warranty, starting on the date of purchase. Keep your proof of purchase. In order to be eligible for the warranty, the sheets need to be purchased new in the United States from Purple or a Purple-authorized reseller.

With the warranty, Purple has the option to repair the sheets or replace the faulty sheets in the set (rather than the entire set).

However, the warranty doesn’t cover normal wear and tear. Damages caused by the customer (like stains or odors) as well as insect damage don’t apply.

Purple offers two types of sheets. Both are soft and stretchy, though the Purple SoftStretch Sheets are thicker than the Purple Sheets.

The Purple Sheets may be better for hot sleepers, whereas the Purple SoftStretch sheets are a better option for those wanting something super soft and slightly thicker.
