The Golden State Warriors have been led by two-time MVP Stephen Curry for the last decade, and he’s proven to be one of the league’s most unstoppable scorers. He does his damage by shooting from deep at a rate the NBA had never seen before.
The league’s only unanimous MVP in its history, Curry has been everything the franchise had envisioned. He’s been phenomenal this season, and he’s arguably playing the best basketball of his career.
Averaging 29.7 points per game headed into the break, Curry is currently notching the second-most points per game of his career. He’s been that good, and he had his Warriors in a position to fight for a playoff position.
In a ranking The Athletic conducted that was based on a poll from NBA insiders, Stephen Curry was ranked as the league’s third-best pure scorer.
Per NBC Sports, Kevin Durant and James Harden were respectively the No. 1 and No. 2 pure scorers in the NBA.
Both on the Nets along with Kyrie Irving and Blake Griffin, Brooklyn has compiled one of the best rosters in NBA history. Irving and Damian Lillard were among the top five as well. That said, the last half a decade has been dominated by Curry’s Warriors.
With Kevin Durant by his side for three seasons, the Warriors have been able to achieve one of the best five-year stretches in league history. It’s been Curry, along with Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, leading the charge.
In his illustrious 11-year career, Curry is averaging 23.8 points per game. It’s more been his ability to score efficiently from deep that’s made him truly unguardable. Curry’s shooting over 43 percent from downtown and, on his career, drills 3.6 triples per game.
Those are both absolutely remarkable as Curry has cemented himself as the best shooter of all time. Now a two-time three-point contest champion, Curry should have ample opportunity to win a couple more titles.
With five-time All-Star Klay Thompson set to return next season, the Warriors will have every opportunity to make noise in the West. Behind the best backcourt duo to ever do it, Golden State will be injected with even more energy next season.
That said, despite being just 6-foot-3, Curry is certainly among the best pure scorers both in the league currently and in its long history.
